Virtual VOLT Meetings

Voices of Lincoln Toastmasters is now hosting its club meetings online!  We are improving our video conferencing skills as a club though using Zoom.  The Zoom Help Center has lots of educational videos and articles to help you get started.  You do not need to have the Zoom app in order to join a meeting.  That said, we do find that it is easier and faster to attend meetings when you use the free version of the app.

Before the meeting:

1. Sign up for the free version of Zoom and download the app for ease of use.

2. Read instructions on how to get started with Zoom.

3. Watch a video and read instructions on how to join the meeting from your computer, smartphone, or telephone.

4. Read about the controls for an attendee.

5. Practice by Joining a Test Meeting.

6. Your video will automatically be on and your audio will automatically be muted when you join the meeting.

Video Conferencing Etiquette

1. Please read the agenda before the meeting.

2. Please mute your audio when it is not your turn to speak.

3. Please enable your video.  Seeing the speaker adds to your experience.  Seeing the audience adds to the speaker's experience.  It's a win-win.

4. Please keep headphones or earbuds handy in case of feedback or echoing.

5. Identify yourself when you start speaking so that people who do not have video know who is speaking.

6. Pass control of the meeting to a specific person by calling on them by name.  If you don’t know who to give the meeting to, give it back to the Toastmaster.

7. Please applaud with American Sign Language by doing "jazz hands" or use the Zoom Reaction applause button.

8. Use the chat to ask questions or make comments.  You can also send private messages to another attendee through the chat to share encouragement, give an evaluation, or vote.
